We strive to create a compassionate, inclusive environment and eagerly welcome patients of all ages and levels of health in The Woodlands area. Dentist Dr. Zelina Pickett, DDS can create a customized plan for helping you maintain good oral health and achieving your wellness goals. Our services include pediatric, adult, and senior dentistry.

Preventative Care
Preventative care and good oral hygiene habits are key to achieving optimal dental health. That’s why we offer comprehensive preventative care for children, adults, and seniors. This includes routine care like oral exams, teeth cleanings, and dental hygiene coaching as well as additional treatments such as dental fillings and sealants. Regular exams and preventative care allow for the early detection of dental disease and can help reduce the cost of treatment over the years. Our preventative dental treatments include routine oral exams, X-rays, cleanings, sealants, and fluoride treatments.

Exams & Cleanings
Having healthy teeth and gums benefits your overall health and quality of life. Science has proven that oral disease is systemic and can affect numerous organs and systems within our bodies. Routine dental exams and cleanings are key to preserving your oral health and preventing cavities, tooth loss, and disease. We recommend visiting our office at least once every six months for routine care and teeth cleanings in The Woodlands. Dr. Pickett will create a schedule for routine care based on your individual needs.

Fillings & Sealants
Dr. Zelina Pickett, DDS may prescribe dental fillings and sealants as part of your customized plan to protect your oral health. Dental sealants are a preventative treatment designed to prohibit the growth of cavities and are applied to the chewing surfaces of the teeth. If cavities have already formed, Dr. Pickett can remove the decaying matter and replace it with a natural-looking tooth filling. Dental fillings are a reliable, effective way to strengthen teeth and keep cavities from spreading.

Crowns
Crown and bridgework is a very reliable solution for major dental problems caused through accidents, diseases, where teeth have broken away through excessive wear, or as the result of old fillings breaking. This is an extremely reliable technique, even permanently replacing missing teeth to offer a complete smile and a functional bite. We can use crowns to make the smile appear “as new”.

Many people have unexplained pain from filled back teeth, which is usually due to hairline cracks in the chewing part of the tooth. Placing crowns on these teeth relieves the pain and allows a return of full dental function for these teeth. In front teeth, older fillings can both weaken the teeth and cause “appearance” problems due to staining or chipping. Porcelain crowns and bridges are suitable in cases where porcelain veneers are not. In teeth with root canal fillings, crowns can prevent breakage. These treatments are used for a long-lasting correction of major dental problems and we consider these treatments to be as close to permanent as dental treatment can get.

Our practice offers lab made crowns, all ceramic crowns, Zirconia, Lithium Disilicate (emax), Porcelain fused to metal (PFM), and gold crowns.

Bridges
This is an option for filling the space created by a missing tooth. It is formed to look like the missing tooth, and it takes its place in the mouth. The sides of a bridge use the two surrounding teeth for support. A bridge replaces the missing tooth, both functionally and it is important that a missing tooth be replaced as soon as possible for several reasons. If not treated the teeth surrounding the gap begin to shift inward, as this worsens the bite changes in response to the pressure. This can eventually result in problems with the entire jaw, e.g. TMJ. The surrounding teeth deteriorate and gum disease becomes a serious problem. Often implants are a better treatment option instead of a bridge.

Composites
Tooth Colored Composite Resin Fillings (Mercury-Free Fillings)
We are a mercury-free practice. However, many people still have silver/mercury fillings in their mouths from years past. These fillings are not particularly pleasing to the eye, and we know that by unavoidable design, silver/mercury fillings ultimately result in a weaker tooth structure. Tooth colored restorations create fillings that are not only beautiful (or unnoticeable) but also add strength to weakened teeth. These restorations are esthetically pleasing and very strong thanks to new bonding technologies. Your teeth are restored to a natural look and feel, they are stronger and the tooth is protected!

Removable Partial Dentures and Dentures
There are different types of dentures, but they share a common function. They replace teeth that have become loose or been lost. There is an adjustment period after dentures are placed in the mouth. Often implants can be used to further stabilize the dentures.

Sedation Dentistry
We offer nitrous as an option for sedation dentistry and can discuss it with patients as needed.
